In this chapter, we will discuss the separation of the application and the infrastructure (cloud provider/cloud consumer model). By moving to a horizontal approach, customers will able to gain a lot more control over the application and adapt it to the business needs (scale and remediation). We will explain the motivation for the separation and focus on the Application layer as a complete operational stack that helps the application owners and developers achieve better agility, more flexibility, more control, higher performance, and lower maintenance costs.
