The Parable of the Locksmith
摘要
As nuclear scientists scrambled to contain the technology behind the splitting of the atom, another group of scientists was just beginning to come into its own. Out of necessity, World War II brought heavy investment in analog and digital computing machines. The Nazis had made tremendous advances since World War I in encrypted communication. The Allied forces responded by allocating significant time and energy to codebreaking efforts, necessitating the rapid evolution of computing machinery to crack the Nazi codes.Computers would soon have as much impact on the world as the harnessing of the atom, but as we will learn, they also brought their own set of unique ethical challenges.
