The History of Design and Contemporary Design Thinking
摘要
The prehistoric landscape of the Lower Paleolithic era gave rise to humans faced with a harsh and unforgiving environment. The need for survival amid predators, changing climates, and the search for food was the mother of invention, akin to the iconic scene from the famous movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. The need to process food and materials faster and more efficiently was indicative of the need to find ways aiming at the reduction of tasks that are time consuming and physically taxing with bare hands. The men and women of the era noticed that certain types of rocks could fracture to create more durable and sharper edges, experimenting with different stones using striking techniques, from trial and error, discovering the unfolding of their capabilities and their tools, eventually crafting their best effective device: the hand axe.
