Migration Part 1: In-Place Migration

  • Iris Classon

摘要

I have experience with a wide range of migrations and rewrites, and it seems that most developers will eventually find themselves in a similar situation. The ever-changing landscape of technology is causing user expectations to grow at a fast pace. This is because there is now a vast selection of libraries and platforms to choose from. Not only is it tempting to migrate so we can try new solutions, but it is also often necessary to keep up with expectations and the growing technology stack. From my experience, migrations that ended poorly often shared the same issues: inadequate planning and a lack of clear goals. Fortunately for us, we have done an extensive analysis and planned the migration. By doing this, we can establish a roadmap that serves as a reference point for us to understand our current position and future destination. In this chapter, we will take a closer look at the migration paths we discussed in the previous chapter, as well as incorporate some of the new features in ASP.NET.
