Employing AI for cybersecurity offers tremendous benefits and has become vital in many security solutions. AI-based security tools have become commonplace, helping prevent and respond to attacks by analyzing patterns of previous attacks. However, to date, AI has mostly had an incremental impact on cybersecurity, improving and enhancing longstanding functions. Detecting and triaging potential attacks has seen the most significant use of AI within cybersecurity. AI's ability to analyze tremendous amounts of data from disparate sources and detect indicators of possible attacks makes it well-suited for threat detection. Therefore, most early applications of AI in cybersecurity focused on threat detection, such as malware, intrusion, and spam detection. During the late 2000s and early 2010s, ML algorithms became quite common within many threat detection products.
