Expert Personas

The single most defining characteristic of generative AI is its ability to discern and duplicate patterns found within its datasets. A successful example of this so far is in the area of linguistics, where generative AI models can identify not only general grammatical structures but also specific usage patterns of words and phrases within its data sets. In Chapter 3 , “Prediction Machines,” we talked about how it creates a statistical predictive model of what phrases would come next. When applied beyond linguistics and into the field of audio and video, these AI models can recognizably generate specific art styles, compose music based on popular songs, paint people and animals, and replicate specific voices and gestures of specific people.
