In this chapter, we will discuss how security vendors have approached and solved data protection by first understanding the security fundamentals behind any data protection solution. Our primary focus will be more on their methods of preventing internal attacks and analyzing their complexities, rather than external attacks. Throughout the remainder of the book, we will predominantly pivot our attention to internal attacks, as they are the most complex and require creative solutions to solve. Organizations can and should actively evade external attacks by employing robust network security methods, leveraging threat intelligence, and deploying effective Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions capable of detecting malware attacks.
