A container field is a type of field that can store and display a single image or document file. Formally, the content of a container is referred to as a binary large object or basic large object, both commonly expressed as the acronym “BLOB,” which is a collection of binary data representing an image, audio, or any file type (except folders) stored as a single data item in a database. In FileMaker, container fields have configuration options that influence how files are inserted into a field, where that material is actually stored (internally or externally), and how it is displayed when placed on a layout. This chapter provides an overview of the options for defining container fields, covering the following topics:
