The Reality
摘要
It was a warm night in the English Cotswolds town near our home. My wife and I were attending the opening of an exhibition at the local art dealer. Our reasons for attending had less to do with our appreciation of art, more to do with the free champagne on offer. Passing the paintings in the exhibition, I spotted the largest painting at the back of the gallery; it was – in my opinion – the most awful waste of paint ever seen. It really stood out among the other pieces. Looking closer I saw it was attributed to a well-known French Impressionist. Looking even closer, I saw it was priced at £3.5 million (about US$4.4 million).
