Importance of Virtual Networks in Cloud and Telecom Networks

In Chapter 5, we have learned the importance of virtualizing network functions for offering flexible, reliable, and scalable network environments for cloud and telecom advanced networks. We also practiced setting up virtual network functions (VNFs) using open source 5G core network functions and the important network services such as dynamic IP (DHCP), hostname resolutions (DNS), load balancing, and reliability (high-availability servers). In data centers, cloud and advanced telecom networks, it is also necessary to share the underlying networking infrastructure and provide isolated network environments for deploying network applications, services, and core network functions. In this chapter, we will introduce the various important virtual networks using Docker.
