GenAI and the Public Sector

In Chapter 1 , we discussed the fundamentals of Generative AI (GenAI) and provided a few examples of how it can be used in our day-to-day lives. This book, however, is primarily about the application of GenAI to the public sector. At its core, the mission of public sector organizations (PSOs) is to ensure the safety, well-being, and livelihood of the constituents they serve. However, delivering on this critical mission is an enormously complex undertaking given the scale, diversity of needs, regulatory requirements, and budgetary constraints involved. PSOs must grapple with providing seamless customer experiences, empowering employees, making data-driven decisions, optimizing operational costs, and safeguarding against threats, including fraud and cyber attacks.
