In this final chapter (new for the second edition of this book), we expand on the simple machines we learned about in Chapter 5 . We focused there on getting mechanical advantage by exerting forces using levers, pulleys, inclined planes, wheels and axles, and wedges. In Chapter 5 , we thought mostly about linear motion: exerting forces to make something move in a straight line.
