This chapter revolves around the changes or transformations happening in SCM over the past few years. In the 1990s and early stages of the 2000s, supply chains and logistical operations underwent significant and quick changes. The goods-shipping business faced serious hurdles as a result of these changes. Two major issues faced by the sector were just-in-time processes and the need for client responsiveness. This fast trend of economies and markets becoming more globalized has an impact on the distribution and purchase of commodities. New information technologies, such as decision support systems (DSS), electronic data interchange (EDI) and the Internet, and GPS via satellites, arose in response to these difficulties facing the logistics sector. Freight forwarders responsiveness capacity and their ability to make decisions in real time significantly grew as they implemented this fresh technology. SCM can be performed manually or in an automated manner, and the choice between the two depends on various factors, including the size of the operation, the complexity of the supply chain, cost considerations, and the specific goals of the business.
