Surface Modification Techniques in Textiles: A Review

摘要

Surface Engineering techniques have been explored extensively in textiles for their many advantages. This paper discusses briefly the various techniques and their notable applications in textiles for the enhancement of textile properties. Low-temperature plasma, Excimer UV lamps, and Chemical and Enzyme techniques are discussed with some experimental results and discussions. The development of various functional surfaces with physicochemical modifications is presented. Silk and polyester are specifically presented as examples of differential surface, finishing, and dyeing aspects. The suitability of surface modifications in technical textiles/textile composite examples is presented. The use of various characterization techniques such as AFM, SEM, and Chemical Analysis is also indicated. The discussion is supported by works of literature and establishes the importance of surface modification techniques in textiles.
