This chapter provides an overview of the human rights and disability rights movementsDisability rights movement that originated in the United States and their influence on the disability advocacy movement in LebanonLebanon. It highlights how these movements inspired Lebanese disabilityDisability advocates to demand their civil rights, ultimately leading to the endorsement of Law 220/2000. In addition, the chapter delves into Law 220/2000, examining its definition of disability, the various sections of the law, and its correlation with the current and extensive understanding of disability models, namely the medical and social models. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the significance of Law 220/2000 in ensuring the protection of the rights of people with disabilitiesPeople With Disabilities in LebanonLebanon and its relevance to the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.
