Storable and Renewable Resources: Forest Resources

This chapter introduces the situation of forest resources globally and in China in particular, discusses the issue of forest resource utilisation efficiency and introduces China’s forest protection policy. Section 8.1 of the chapter describes the role and importance of forest resources and identifies three characteristics of forest resources: renewability, complexity and externalities. Section 8.2 presents the total amount and distribution of forest resources globally and in particular in China. Section 8.3 discusses the issue of forest resource use efficiency, analyses the forest resource use situation globally as well as in China, and calculates the forest resource use efficiency in China, pointing out the reasons for the inefficiency. Section 8.4 describes China’s public management policies for forest resources. Section 8.5 summarises the above.
