James McConnell published, in The Lancet on 21 August 1875, his findings from a postmortem examination—undertaken at the Medical College Hospital in Calcutta, India—of a 20-year-old Chinese man, in whom he found Clonorchis sinensis in the bile ducts (Qian et al. 2016).
