Sarcocystosis
摘要
Sarcocystosis is an intracellular protozoan infection that is generally chronic and asymptomatic but may have serious neural, reproductive consequences even fatal myocarditis in cattle. Comparative pathology is suggestive of similar pathology in human. Low estimated burden may be due to difficult diagnosis and poor reporting. Several outbreaks involving large number of people have been cited by Fayer et al. (2015) in their review. Trade impact is unknown. Visible cysts are rare; if visible, the carcass is declared unfit. It causes economic loss and affects the livelihood of backyard pig rearers in such situation.
