Histoplasmosis

Histoplasmosis is an acute pulmonary almost always self-limiting infection caused by a dimorphic saprophyte. It may cause obstructive bronchopulmonary disease and death due to severe respiratory insufficiency. As a common secondary invader, Histoplasma capsulatum causes fatal infection in HIV patients and other immunocompromised people due to disseminated form that can affect any tissue, the skin, gastrointestinal and respiratory organs, bones, joints, and the CNS.
