Coccidioidomycosis

Coccidioides was first discovered by a medical intern in 1892 and was later named Coccidioides immitis (Akram and Koirala 2023). Two species within the genus Coccidioides are recognized, namely, C. immitis and C. posadasii, which are diphasic. These are saprophytes and exist in soil as mycelia and arthroconidia and are pathogen in tissues as spherule and endospore.
