Psittacosis

Psittacosis is an infectious zoonotic disease manifesting as mild, non-specific flu-like symptoms. It is caused by Chlamydia psittaci and is transmitted from infected birds. C. psittaci affects animal health and is economically relevant. Psittacosis is referred to infection transmitted from birds of the family Psittacidae. Ornithosis refers to infection acquired from other birds, domestic and wild. Both are considered the same. C. psittaci is listed as a potential bioweapon.
