Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is emerging and re-emerging zoonotic infection affecting primarily the liver and kidney but may affect lungs and other organs also. It has serious economic and social impact on agrarian communities. The distribution is worldwide. South and Southeast Asia, Oceania and parts of Latin America and the Caribbean report the highest morbidity. Hawaii, Florida and Puerto Rico in the USA have experienced outbreaks following floods.
