Glanders

Glanders is infectious life-threatening disease of horses, mules and donkeys, transmissible to dogs, cats, goats, camels and felines living in the wild, bears, wolves and human. The acute form is characterized by fever, cough, infectious nasal discharge, pneumonia, septicaemia and death within days. Chronic form presents nodules that ulcerate eventually in the upper respiratory and nasal mucosa, lungs and subcutaneous tissues. Death occurs within months. Survivors act as carriers.
