Cat Scratch Fever/Disease (CSF/CSD)

Cat scratch fever/disease (CSF/CSD) is characterized by non-painful bump or blister at the site of injury and painful lymph gland draining the area, fever and malaise. The incubation period is 3–14 days. The clinical syndrome of CSD was described in 1950 for the first time (Debre et al. 1950) and organism could not be observed until 1983 when a small, pleomorphic Gram-negative bacillus in infected lymph nodes of patients was described (Wear et al. 1983). It was successfully isolated and cultured in 1988 (English et al. 1988). Initially, it was named Afipia felis, after the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, where this organism was discovered (Brenner et al. 1991), but later it was designated as Bartonella.
