Rift Valley Fever

Rift Valley fever (RVF) is an emerging mosquito-borne zoonotic viral haemorrhagic infection of increasing global concern. It is associated with heavy rainfall. Generally, epizootic is followed by epidemic transmission in rural areas. Waves of a large number of abortions, neonatal mortality and death in young sheep, goats and cattle cause serious economic loss. Contact with infected animal body fluids leads to epidemic of serious haemorrhagic fever characterized by high fever, headache, retinitis, haemorrhages, encephalitis and death. Some cases present symptoms resembling dengue.
