Zika Virus

Zika virus (ZIKV) is a flavivirus transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquito bites and is known to have caused alarming epidemics. ZIKV disease manifested in three different forms. The flu-like epidemics in Yap Islands (Federated States of Micronesia) in 2007 and in the French Polynesia in 2013 and other countries and territories in the Pacific is the first form. The March–October 2015 epidemic in Brazil was described as congenital Zika syndrome characterized by microcephaly.
