Toxocariasis

The detection of a nematode in human retinal granuloma in a child in 1950 led to the recognition of human toxocariasis. A severe long-term multi-system disease with eosinophilia in a number of children offered an opportunity to describe the symptoms of visceral larva migrans (VLM) because the juvenile parasite was detected on biopsy. Toxocariasis is considered a major public health problem (Despommier 2003).
