摘要

In this chapter, we discuss electronic modulation techniques that can enhance the performance of electrocatalysts in water electrolysis. The effects of cation doping, heteroatom doping, and the creation of oxygen vacancies on electrocatalytic activity are discussed in detail. Additionally, multimetallic electrocatalysts and their ligand and strain effects are examined as a means of electronic modulation. These techniques are shown to improve electrocatalytic activity by altering the electronic properties of the catalyst, resulting in enhanced charge transfer, reaction kinetics, and stability. This chapter aims to illustrate a detailed overview of the various strategies employed to modulate active sites' electronic structure and improve their efficiency in water electrolysis.
