Emerging Electrocatalytic Strategies for Hydrogen Production from Water

This chapter explores emerging electrocatalytic strategies for efficient and sustainable hydrogen production from water. First, conventional water electrolysis is discussed, along with its associated challenges, including high energy consumption, slow kinetics, and limited durability of the electrocatalyst. Approaches to overcome these challenges, such as developing advanced materials and designs, are also considered. Next, nonconventional innovative strategies, including hybrid, decoupled, and tandem approaches, are explored in detail, along with their respective advantages and disadvantages. Finally, the potential of these emerging strategies to overcome the limitations of conventional water electrolysis and enable the efficient and sustainable production of hydrogen from water is discussed.
