Polymer Precursors for High Technology Applications
摘要
This chapter summarizes the development of polymeric materials as precursors for ceramics. Emphasis is on the silicon-based polymeric materials that are potential precursors of silicon carbide (SiC) based ceramics. Different synthetic methods have been discussed and a brief review of the processing of ceramics has been covered. Development of the precursor route to ceramics, in particular polycarbosilane (PCS) to SiC, and a brief account of the contributions of DMSRDE (DRDO) in this field have been described, whereby some of the applications of indigenous PCS have been discussed.
