The Impact of Information Technologies on the Tourist Experience: Case of Tabasco, Mexico

Technological advances have had a revolutionary impact on the tourism industry, transforming the travel experience and positioning itself as a key ally in the global development of tourism. This has generated recognition for the tourism sector in various parts of the world. Based on this context, an investigation was carried out that used data analytics software to examine the behavior of tourists during their trip, visit, and stay in the state of Tabasco. The objective was to identify, through the analysis, the areas in which the state needs to improve in terms of technological development to provide a pleasant tourist experience. To obtain this information, data was collected through surveys carried out on tourists who visited Tabasco. In addition, the Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) methodology was used to discover the behavior patterns that tourists exhibit during their visit to the state. The results revealed the main reason why tourists choose to visit Tabasco, as well as the technological tools and applications they use before, during, and after their stay in the region. It also inquired about how and why tourists became aware of these tools provided by the state for tourism. Finally, the level of satisfaction of tourists regarding the development and implementation of technological applications aimed at making their visit to Tabasco a truly pleasant experience was evaluated.
