Influence of the Pulling-Out of the Temporary Sheet Pile Wall on the Adjacent Pile Foundation in Clay

摘要

From practical needs of the construction, the temporary sheet pile wall is widely used to construct the pile cap of the pile foundation. As a temporary work, the sheet pile walls normally are removed after completing pile cap. Regarding the effect of dismantled temporary sheet pile wall using vibration methods, a few studies have been recently caried out. However, these studies are more focused on the settlement of surrounding soil, even if there are research conducted to evaluate the effect of proximity of sheet pile wall on the apparent capacity of driven displacement piles in sand. Thus, this paper is aimed to assess the impacts of pulling-out of the temporary wall on the behavior of the adjacent permanent pile foundation. The numerical modeling has been performed to investigate these influences on the bearing capacity of bored piles including axial force, bending moment, and pile displacement. In this study, the finite element method using PLAXIS 3D is used to simulate different ranges of the relative distance between sheet pile wall and pile foundation. As a result, the correlation between the distance of installing temporary sheet pile wall and its effect on pile capacity are evaluated. The findings provide valuable insights into the behavior of pile foundations when temporary sheet pile walls are removed, contributing to a better understanding of this aspect and offering practical guidance for engineering applications in similar contexts.
