Evaluation of the Potential for Reusing Dredged Material for Beach Nourishment in Vietnam

Beach nourishment is an environmentally friendly solution that is used by many countries around the world. Beach nourishment has been carried out in Vietnam at several beaches, including Do Son (Hai Phong), Tuan Chau (Quang Ninh), Cua Dai (Quang Nam), Bai Dai (Nha Trang), and Mui Nai (Kien Giang) (Tung, T. The availability of sediment sources and suitable materials are critical issues in nourishment. Meanwhile, the current situation and demand for dredging in Vietnam's coastal maritime channels are incredibly high. In this study, the authors will assess the potential of reusing dredged materials for beach nourishment by evaluating the composition of the dredged material, determining the closure depth for beach nourishment, equilibrium beach profiles, and the average size of the material required for beach nourishment at some specific beaches along the coast of Vietnam.
