Bearing Capacity Assessment of the Instrumented Shaft Grouting Barrette Pile by Conventionally Static Loading Test

A conventionally static loading test program was conducted on the instrumented shaft grouting barrette pile to serve the design and construction of the 21-story office building foundation located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The soil condition at the project site consists of 10-m firm to stiff lean clay (CL), deposited on 40-m loose to very dense silty sand (SM), followed by 10-m hard lean clay (CL), and underlain by dense to very dense silty sand. The test pile was constructed to a depth of 50 m below the existing grade. The strain gages were attached to the test pile at ten levels to measure the shaft resistances during the pile loading test. A 15-m segment of the test pile in silty sand (SM) was grouted to consider reducing the designed pile length. The static loading test results indicate that the unit shaft resistance of the grouted shaft is about 2.0 and 2.5 times greater than that of the non-grouted shaft without and with considering the influence of the vertical effective overburden stresses, respectively.
