Building up a Dataset for Investigation of the Load Transfer Mechanism of Bored Piles from Case Histories in Vietnam

Bored pile foundations find extensive application across diverse sectors including civilian, industrial, and transport infrastructure. Yet, the intricate load–displacement behavior of individual piles presents a significant challenge, and the research on the load transfer mechanism of bored piles is not yet fully matured. Thus, this study aims to address this gap by providing a framework for constructing a reliable in situ dataset that can offer insights into the load transfer mechanism of bored piles in specific geological conditions in Vietnam. The study examines the reliability of the Chin–Kondner extrapolation method in predicting the load–displacement curve of the collected dataset. In addition, the performance of commonly used SPT (Standard Penetration Test) direct methods for estimating the ultimate axial load-bearing capacity is presented. Several future research opportunities that can be explored based on the dataset are also discussed.
