摘要

Climate change has been one of the most pressing issues, with far-ranging environmental and health effects to our world. The use of deep vibro techniques such as vibro compaction and vibro stone column is proven to have a smaller carbon footprint compared to cement-based products such as cement soil mixing and concrete piles. Foundation or ground improvement techniques that use binder or cement tend to give 60%–70% higher CO2 emission comparing with ground improvement technique that utilizes natural material (Zohrer et al in Ecological balance of foundation engineering methods, 2010 [7]). These deep vibro techniques are widely used in ground improvement for varied soil conditions. This paper discusses the performance of deep vibro techniques and carbon sustainability of adopting such ground improvement techniques. Three industrial projects in Vietnam have been selected to demonstrate the foundation performance of deep vibro techniques and the resulting carbon emission savings.
