OCBs During COVID-19 Pandemic Scenario: A Survey of Selected Indian Companies

Organizational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) refers to all activities undertaken by employees which are not specified in their work contract and are solely carried out of their qualms of conscience. The concept of OCBs can be observed in various eminent organizations across the globe but especially with the backdrop of COVID-19 this noble construct got a sudden push in various organizations. It was the need of the hour that people extend humanitarian support to those who need it most. In order to identify the kinds of OCBs undertaken by employees of major Indian companies towards those affected by COVID-19, a detailed review of the OCBs disclosed electronically or otherwise on company websites and annual reports was carried out. The annual reports for the financial years 2020–21, 2021–22 and 2022–23 were used for this purpose. This chapter presents a wide variety of activities that were undertaken voluntarily by the employees of various companies like Marico, RBL Bank, Toyota India, IBM India, Deloitte India, Tata, Reliance Industries Ltd., Hindustan Unilever, Adani Groups, Aditya Birla Group, Wipro, etc. during the pandemic. These behaviours covered areas like healthcare assistance, online education, mentorship, skill orientation, etc.
