Community Integration and Holistic Rehabilitation for Traumatic Brain Injuries
摘要
Rehabilitation following traumatic brain injury (TBI) is primarily focused on complete community reintegration. The survival of the person with traumatic brain injuries has increased with the increase in medical care, and this demands community integration. Rehabilitation is a complex, challenging, and creative process for all trauma patients including TBI as it may involve various disabilities. Understanding the effects and the various functional limits following a TBI is crucial. Furthermore, addressing the difficulties faced in vital areas such as functioning, interpersonal, vocational, educational, and recreational will facilitate the formation of patient-centric strategies for the rehabilitation process. The psychosocial sequelae of TBI like major depression or dementia are often unrecognized as most medical specialists focus on motor deficits and dysfunction associated with TBI. The accomplishment of the anticipated outcomes depends on various factors like goals as defined by the person with TBI, rehabilitation services, and social services. The comprehensive approach to rehabilitation of traumatic brain injuries incorporates multiple domains such as physical, cognitive, psychosocial, and vocational to ensure complete community reintegration.
