Background of IoV

摘要

Driven by recent advances in Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, artificial intelligence, and autonomous driving technologies, a new round of global technological and industrial revolution in automobile industry is booming. The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is a typical interdisciplinary field that involves computer science, communication engineering, automation control, transportation engineering, vehicle engineering, etc. Also, it is a combination of multiple cutting-edge technologies including mobile Internet, information technology, big data analytics, cloud computing, mobile edge computing, computation intelligence, etc. IoV is expected to promote innovation and breakthroughs of these new technologies and drive the transformation and upgrade of automobile industry. In this chapter, we first introduce the concept of IoV from three different perspectives. Then, we present a hierarchical architecture for IoV by analyzing its unique characteristics. Finally, we discuss new arising challenges as well as opportunities in future IoV.
