Advances of Graphene Oxide in the Field of Microbiology

Graphene Oxide (GO) which is a two-dimensional nanomaterial, undergoes development as a game-changer in microbiology. It possesses suitable properties including large surface area, easy functionalization, and excellent biocompatibility allowing its wide area applications. These GO-based materials have undergone exceptional activity in bacterial and viral inactivation, which allows there use in disinfectants, antimicrobial coatings and as filters. They also work as versatile platforms in drug delivery, allowing precise targeting of pathogens. When there is interaction between GO and bio molecules its enhanced microbial activity opened new avenues for diagnostics and applications in the field of biosensors. In this chapter synthesis of GO along with its multifaceted capabilities have been discussed, revolutionizing microbiology, offering promising solutions for combating infectious diseases and advancing research.
