Culture’s Consequences: Making Health Communication More Equitable and Inclusive
摘要
Culture is relevant as a factor for health communication efforts due to the influence that culture has on individual behaviour. Engaging the lenses of Mohan Dutta’s culture-centred approach (CCA) as well as social representation, this chapter will explore the nuances and meanings typical health messages have for communities of identity. Following the discussions surrounding inequity and power imbalance when it comes to access to health services and the ability to stay healthy, the chapter will turn to the impact of health literacy (or rather the lack thereof) and explore humanistic models of human motivation for culture-inclusive health communication.
