Study on Photocatalyst for Removal of Organic Pollutants from the Water of Damodar River, India

Herein we report a new simplest and most cost-effective route for synthesising TiO2 photocatalyst with a mesoporous microsphere structure by hydrolysis of a TiCl3 precursor. The high photocatalytic activity of the synthesised material was investigated through XRD, FESEM, BET surface analysis, UV–Vis spectroscopy, etc. High-concentrated (40 mg/L) methylene blue (model organic pollutant) was degraded around 99%. BET and XRD surface analysis confirm the mesoporous structure with high surface area concerned with the crystalline anatase phase. The adopted synthesis route is considered one of the easiest methods to produce mesoporous TiO2-based photocatalysts via hydrolysis of TiCl3. Synthesised hierarchical TiO2 photocatalysts could be useful in the field of wastewater treatment.
