Sparse Sensing for Dual-Functional Radar Communications

The ongoing intensive research has been developing multi-function solutions to the coexistence of radar and communications in the increasingly congested radio frequency (RF) spectral environment. Dual-function radar communications (DFRC) systems have recently been proposed to enable the coexistence of radar and wireless communications. The nominal array configuration for existing DFRC systems is uniform and of fixed-structured, however, it is not necessarily optimum in every sense, and ignores the additional degrees of freedom (DoFs) provided by the flexibility in configuring the antenna array. In this chapter, we introduce the sparse sensing for dual-functional radar communications.
