Design of Raman-Based Sensing Systems

Sensor design utilizing the Raman transduction involves a systematic selection and integration of substrates, linker chemistries and recognition elements. This article discusses the key aspects toward design of Raman-based sensing systems in light of the physical processes involved. The surface-enhanced Raman effect (SERS) is discussed to arrive at a single fingerprinted solution for multiplexed multianalyte detection systems. This article summarizes the critical design aspects of a Raman system and lays out the perspectives of their commercialization.
