Soil enzymes `activate various key reactions necessary for the life processes of soil-based microorganisms in agriculture. Soil enzymes are important for the energy transfer that occurs through the breakdown of organic matter in soil and cycling of nutrients. Moreover, it is also beneficial in the maintenance of structure of soil. Soil enzymes are primarily produced by microbes. All changes in environmental factors and soil management techniques are quickly reacted to by soil enzymes. Their effects are directly impacted by the soil’s physiochemical and biological properties. Soil enzymes are used as detectors to assess the microbiological state and physio-chemical parameters of the soil. Understanding the possible functions of various soil enzymes in maintaining the health of soil can help with soil health management and fertility control. Enzymes serve as essential activating agents of biological processes, and they are acknowledged to have a significant function in maintaining the ecology as well as the health of the soil. The bulk of enzymatic activity found in soil is produced from free enzymes or within the cell, the majority of which are microbial in origin. A detailed understanding of the functions of enzymes found in soil is essential to ensure that soil remains healthy because soil is an essential component for the terrestrial environment and it nourishes every aspect of life on earth. A greater knowledge of the significance of the activity of soil enzymes in sustaining the health of soil could give an excellent chance for a combined biological evaluation of soils because of their essential function in numerous soil biochemical processes.
