Teaching Math and Preserving Culture: The Intersection of Values in Indonesian Pedagogy
摘要
This article delves into the significance of local culture-based mathematics pedagogy design among pre-service teachers in Indonesia, focusing primarily on the incorporation of local cultural values. The study aims to illustrate the development of value constructs and how educators apply them in the creation of teaching materials. A total of 103 pre-service teachers from a public university, representing diverse cultural backgrounds across Indonesia, participated in this qualitative research. The study employed document analysis, employing thematic analysis to examine the developed teaching material designs. The analysis focused on sentences used by students in crafting their teaching materials. The findings reveal those pre-service teachers actively integrated local culture into their mathematics pedagogy design, encompassing values such as usefulness, creativity, and transformation. This research sheds light on the critical role of cultural relevance in preparing future educators and fostering effective teaching practices in mathematics education.
