Generalized Data Auditing Solution in Trustless Environments Using IoT and Hyperledger Fabric

As the world progresses into the phase of Industrial IoT (IIoT) and Industry 4.0, IoT services are being rapidly deployed into Industrial, Environmental, and other critical domains. Prior to this, audits and quality checks in Industries were manual, presaging that fraud, corruption, and bribery were highly plausible events where sensitive data like Air Quality Index, Radiation Levels, and other mandatory quality assurance data from Industries can be effortlessly manipulated. This issue can create a false sense of security among all the stakeholders, the public, and a massive danger to the Environment. This paper proposes a Generalized Data Auditing Solution in trustless environments like Industries. This solution is built using IoT to automate data collection process and uses Hyperledger Fabric, an open-sourced permissioned blockchain, to store the data on a secure, tamper-proof blockchain data structure. This paper also demonstrates a webpage and services built on top of the data layer which can be used by audit and quality assurance authorities to query the historical data transmitted by the deployed IoT nodes. The proposed solution eliminates any manual data recording and data manipulation by combining the forces of IoT and blockchain.
