Castleman Disease Misdiagnosed as Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors can occur at any age, but are more commonly found in middle-aged and older adults over 50 years of age, with no difference in the incidence between men and women. Additionally, GISTs can occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract from the esophagus to the rectum. Some cases are found outside the GI tract, mainly in the omentum, mesentery and retroperitoneum, and has also been reported in the spleen, bladder, urethra and perineum. It is easy to misdiagnose GIST because of the variable sites of occurrence and the variety of imaging manifestations. Surgeons should improve their knowledge of various rare diseases, consider the possibility of various diseases in their clinical work, and improve the accuracy of diagnosis through MDT discussion when necessary [1].
