Kinect-Based Method for Upper Limb Joint Angle Measurement

This paper reports a Kinect-based method for upper limb joint angle measurement. The method uses a Kinect device to acquire the spatial coordinates of human upper limb joint nodes and filters the data. We use the filtered data to calculate the angles of prescribed movements of the cervical, spine, shoulder, elbow and wrist joints. Five healthy subjects performed the experiments, each subject performed six experiments and took the average value as the measurement. Calculated according to the t-test, the \(\left|t\right|\) values for the cervical spine, spine, shoulder, elbow and wrist were all less than 2.776. Therefore, the measurements results were not significantly different from the expected values, indicating that the system has high measurement accuracy.
