Solar Photovoltaic Installation in Eight Educational Institutions in District Faridabad: A Case Study

Distributed generation involves low scale power generation at or near load centers, commonly using renewable resources. Rooftop solar photovoltaic installation provides clean energy using an already existing infrastructure. This paper proposes a solar photovoltaic installation in the Faridabad district in the state of Haryana, India. The solar plants are grid connected and are proposed for installation in eight academic institutions. These institutions are having sufficient area for large scale power generation and are geographically located throughout the district. The area available for solar panel installation is determined by surveying. The proposed solar plants are grid connected so as to overcome the intermittency in solar availability. Tata Power Solar System’s solar modules having peak power 310Wp are selected which are connected to ABB’s 500 kWac inverter. The proposed system is simulated as per the data available with METEONORM 7.2 on PVSYST 6.88 software tool which gives a total 154,849 MWh energy generated per year. The results obtained can serve as a reference for Smart Cities mission and also for generating clean energy for rural areas.
